If you re installing a lever style drain insert the plunger and linkage into the hole in the tub wall beneath the faucet. Tighten drain bolt a to secure. Do not overtighten or drain shoe assembly may be damaged. The first step to installing bathtub overflow drain is removing the waste and overflow is to remove the overflow cover.

Frozen drain levers are usually from the corroded bucket gate at the bottom. Verify top and bottom tub floor sealing surface is clean flat and smooth prior to assembly. You can replace just this plate at your hardware store for a few dollars. You usually don t need a tool to do this.

If you have to hold your drain lever down for the tub to drain it is more than likely the tension spring on the back of the overflow plate. Feed it into the overflow pipe screw the overflow faceplate onto the opening then screw the new drain plate onto the flange. This overflow cover is usually directly above the plug that drains the water on the bottom of the tub.

Install a bathtub drain and overflow assembly in a new tub when replacing the assembly for a bathroom upgrade. Put the overflow pipe with the overflow elbow attached into one. Place the new overflow drain cover against the bathtub s overflow opening and line up the screw holes. The top tub lip must be level.

Step 1 dry fit the pipes without glue. But if the fittings on the overflow tube become loose it can allow water to spill out and drip beneath the tub where it might even ruin the floor or the ceiling in the room below. The overflow tube is a safety feature that channels water that has overfilled the tub back down into the drain pipes before it can spill over the edge of the tub. The removal of the cover is an easier part of the process.

Place the t fitting on the waste drainpipe so that one remaining opening is vertical and the other one is lateral toward the tub.
